Family and friends have said their last goodbyes to Maikel Valdivia, the motorcyclist who died last Saturday afternoon near the town of Tao. The sad event has shocked a large part of society and in particular the world of sports, since Maikel belonged to two handball clubs on the island such as San José Obrero and Zonzamas.

"From here we want to send all his family members our solidarity and deep regret for such a painful loss," they wrote on the Facebook of the San José Obrero handball club. The president of the entity, Juan Carlos Toledo, has told La Voz that Maikel Valdivia was playing in the children's categories. "He was from the class of '82, he came from the nucleus we have at the Argana school, a very sociable boy. Although he was no longer linked to the club, we did maintain contact, the contact was alive," he stated.

Valdivia also played for the Zonzamas handball club and on the club's Facebook wall they have also mourned his loss. "RIP Maikel Valdivia, former player of our club who died suddenly this weekend," they said from the entity, which has shown its condolences and sent a message of "encouragement to his family and friends."

Former colleagues, family and friends gathered this Monday at 12 noon at the chapel of the Insular Hospital to say goodbye. There a mass was celebrated before the transfer to the San Román cemetery in Arrecife.
