The First Vice-President of the Government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, assured today, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers, that the Integrated System of External Surveillance (SIVE) "has been and continues to be effective" regardless of "any specific case" such as the Los Cocoteros tragedy.
She also assured that there is "full collaboration" with the Government of the Canary Islands on irregular immigration and that the central government "will be at the meeting" on immigration that the regional Executive "has been promoting" for weeks and will maintain its policy of cooperation with the countries of origin of the phenomenon "to find solutions".
"There is good communication", De la Vega insisted after referring to the agreement adopted today by the Council of Ministers, in application of the Agreement signed by both administrations weeks ago to subsidize the transfer of immigrant minors from the Canary Islands to other communities with 15 million euros
"We are collaborating with the Government of the Canary Islands and we are also doing so by seeking the solidarity of the rest of the Autonomous Communities", said De la Vega after admitting that in the Canary Islands "there is a real problem" in this regard and recalling that minors have "a special status" that differentiates them from other irregulars.
The vice president insisted that the SIVE "works well" although "there may be a specific case" in which it is not so due to "specific aspects" that "do not detract one iota of effectiveness" from the system
"We have it very accredited", she said, "it is an integral border surveillance system that is proving very effective and that is very important regardless of any specific case".
