The annual balance of Civil Protection of Yaiza has yielded a total of 293 actions in 2019, including preventive services in cultural, festive and sports events of high and low concentration of public, rescues at sea and land, health care, training, fire fighting, social actions and animal protection.
This performance has been praised by the mayor, Óscar Noda, who has valued the "commitment and dedication" of the 38 volunteers of the group "who ensure the safety and tranquility of citizens, always acting in coordination with the Local Police of Yaiza, Firefighters of the Consortium and different security and emergency bodies".
The City Council of Yaiza, which highlights that it has improved the technical resources of Civil Protection during the last year by investing more than 40,000 euros, also affirms that it remains firm in its commitment to expand its endowment. In this regard, it points out that proof of this is that the institution is tendering for a new basic life support ambulance and a maritime rescue boat, apart from the already acquired rescue jet ski that is about to enter service.
Almost 1,200 hours of work and 100 training hours
Likewise, it is pointed out that Civil Protection of Yaiza has reinforced its training program aimed at new volunteers while updating knowledge to personnel who were already part of the group. "Training is a priority so that volunteers can better perform their work, but also, in certain emergency situations, any trained citizen can save lives, and that is why we teach theoretical - practical courses in first aid and handling of the automatic defibrillator aimed at different groups," adds the mayor of Yaiza.
Only in training, Civil Protection of Yaiza in 2019 dedicated 100 training hours aimed at its volunteers, in addition to the training time dedicated to municipal personnel, monitors and guards of Timanfaya and cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses taught in educational centers of the municipality. The 293 actions of Civil Protection of Yaiza in 2019 involved 1,197 hours of work.
