The Island Association of Hotel and Apartment Business Owners of Lanzarote (Asolan) has expressed its "rejection" of the sexual abuse suffered by a chambermaid by a British tourist, who has already been convicted after confessing to the events in a quick trial.
"From Asolan we want to remember that this entity and our associates strongly reject any violent behavior that does not respect the professionals who work in the hotel industry, and of course any type of aggression or sexual abuse such as the one suffered by a chambermaid," said the president of the employers, Susana Pérez.
"Asolan deeply regrets the events and wishes to convey its support to the person affected, as well as reiterate its rejection of sexist violence in any of its forms," he adds, expressing "his confidence in justice and in the measures adopted against the aggressor", who has been imposed the payment of a fine of about 2,000 euros and a restraining order for a crime of sexual abuse in the degree of attempt.
In its statement, Asolan recalls that it is part of the ICASEL Hotel Technical Table, and stresses that "one of the most important issues being worked on is precisely the drafting of the Protocol against Workplace Harassment, in order to have a reference model that allows advising and helping to implement necessary and appropriate procedures to act immediately from the moment the staff communicates a situation of harassment".
However, in its note, the employers does not refer to the complaint transferred by the collective of Las Kellys and by the Feminist Platform 8-M, which questioned the attitude of the hotel after what happened. In fact, they pointed out that the young woman's superiors did not even believe her when she told what happened and made her continue working in an area near the room where the events had occurred, until she called her family and they reported it to the police.
