During this past morning, another break has been registered in the sanitation network that runs in the Argana Alta neighborhood, through its impulsion system that crosses the subsoil of Tenderete street, in Arrecife.

In recent months, this neighborhood has seen consecutive breaks in that network, under the maintenance of Canal Gestión Lanzarote, the company that has been assigned the responsibilities of the integral water cycle on the island. Now, last night's break, which has caused a collapse on Tenderete street, joins those that occurred in October and November of last year on Tajaraste street, always in the same impulsion network of the sanitation network waters.

Last autumn, the Arrecife City Council demanded that Canal Gestión Lanzarote provide an external authorship report on the situation of the sanitation network in the capital of Lanzarote, specifying the maintenance work, breaks and damages, and the investments made, if any, in that maintenance, which this company is legally responsible for after the direct transfer from the Water Consortium of Lanzarote.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and direct head of the Department of Public Works, also demanded this request in the Assembly of the Water Consortium, the entity that transferred the management of the integral water cycle to Canal Gestión.

For the mayor, these continuous breaks in the sanitation network show that its condition and maintenance are failing, and he requests the Water Consortium to use the channels for Canal Gestión to provide that audit, which was ratified in one of the last meetings of the Water Consortium.

The responsibilities for the repair and maintenance of the sanitation and supply network correspond to Canal Gestión, due to the transfer made from the Water Consortium of Lanzarote.

Yonathan de León demands that Canal Gestión, with speed, provide this audit that allows knowing the alleged maintenance work carried out by Canal Gestión since it assumed these full responsibilities in the entire sewage network in the municipality.

The Arrecife City Council shares the anger of the citizens who are seeing before their eyes that, in addition to the breaks in the water supply networks on the island, causing continuous water cuts in the supply to homes and agricultural properties, damages and breaks in the subsoil of the capital are now being added, which are also affecting the sewage network. The serious breaks generate landslides or holes in the public road, such as the one registered last night, affecting the mobility of vehicles and harming citizens, where the exclusive responsibility for that network lies with Canal Gestión Lanzarote.

Argana, a neighborhood affected by the breaks of Canal Gestión in its sewage network

Last October and November, three breaks in the impulsion network were registered on Tajaraste street, and last night, a new one on Tenderete street, a road that has been transformed in its entirety, and where Canal Gestión and the Consortium declined the replacement of the sanitation network before the execution of the works.

In that area of Tenderete street, collapses of the road had already been registered several years ago due to similar breaks in that sanitation network that runs through the subsoil.

The City Council urges the water company to urgently repair this network, which affects the mobility of a key street in the Argana neighborhood. A unit of the Local Police of Arrecife has been in the area since this morning assisting with traffic.
