"There was no more disaster because God didn't want it". This is what Ginés Cedrés, a member of Emerlan who intervened in the altercation that took place in La Santa early this Monday morning, has stated, which ended with the arrest of a man who had been subdued and detained by several neighbors after causing damage with an axe.

According to Ginés Cedrés, the events took place in the Yemayá restaurant in the town, where Emerlan went after receiving an alert from the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands for "a fight with machetes". "We saw the axe later," said this member of Emerlan, who says it was "large, a lumberjack's axe".

Upon arrival, he said, the man was already on the ground with "four or five people subduing him" and had "several blows to the head". "He was bleeding from his face and several places," he said.

"The restaurant was completely destroyed, people were upset, and there were no police or anything. They arrived later, after two or three minutes," added Ginés Cedrés, who stated that, after the Local Police and the Civil Guard arrived at the scene, they spent "almost half an hour" to "calm" the man and be able to transfer him to the ambulance to take him to the Hospital, since he was "upset".

Although the man stated that he had caused the altercation after having been previously assaulted, he was arrested by the Civil Guard for a crime of serious threats and another of damages. The arrested man, who is 31 years old and has a long criminal record, was brought to justice on Monday morning.
