Agents of the Citizen Attention Operative Group (GOAC) of the Local Police of Arrecife responded last Sunday, January 7, to an urgent call alerting about a case of gender violence in a home in the Altavista neighborhood, in the capital of Lanzarote.

Upon arrival, they found the door ajar and a woman asking for help. The victim, 55 years old, presented erosions on her face, neck and arms, as a result of the aggression perpetrated by her 69-year-old partner, according to the Local Police, who also allegedly threatened her with a kitchen knife.

Facts revealed that discussions and mistreatment were recurrent, as noted in the proceedings carried out by the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, but the victim did not report for fear of the aggressiveness of her partner, who also possessed knives and firearms. For such acts, the agents proceeded to arrest the aggressor without any opposition.

During the intervention, the agents seized five katanas of significant dimensions (100, 80, 80, 60 and 30 cm), a 20-centimeter kitchen knife, allegedly used in the threat and a short weapon that simulates a 9-millimeter parabellum firearm.

Gender violence continues to be a crime that requires the intervention of the entire society. The reporting of the facts and citizen collaboration are essential to guarantee an effective response from the security forces.

Counterfeiting crime

In addition, in the same intervention, the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife confiscated an envelope with a considerable sum of counterfeit money, €8,800 in total, distributed in a batch of 84 €50 bills and another of 46 €100 bills, for which an investigation has been initiated for this alleged crime.

Article 386 of the Penal Code punishes the counterfeiting of currency and stamped effects with penalties of 8 to 12 years in prison and a fine of up to 10 times the apparent value of the counterfeit currency.
