The Fire Department had to intervene on Thursday night to extinguish a fire in Francos street in Arrecofe, where the fourth floor of a house was completely burned by flames that had been inside the house for some time, which was unoccupied at the time. Neighbors alerted the emergency services around 10:25 p.m., according to the Emergency Coordination Center 112.
Local Police, National Police and an SUC ambulance also went to the scene, but did not have to attend to any victims.
"When we arrived, the fire was in a very advanced state, which made the extinguishing work very difficult, as we had to cool the block first so that the firefighters could enter the house," says Esteban García, manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, who says that if the neighbors had noticed the fire earlier, the firefighters would not have taken about two and a half hours to put it out. "The house started to burn, but the neighbors didn't realize it until the flames and smoke started to come out of the facade," says García.
Luckily, there are no victims of any kind to regret, as the house was unoccupied and only the street was closed and the building evacuated.
At the moment, the original causes of the fire are unknown, and are currently under investigation.
Interventions in Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca
The firefighters also had to intervene this Thursday in extinguishing a small fire in a palm tree in Costa Teguise registered at 18:05 hours, while in the town of Playa Blanca two interventions were carried out; one to extinguish the fire of a car parked in a workshop and a slight fire in a cardboard container basket, both fires registered at about 4:00 in the morning.
