The San Ginés Polyphonic Choir celebrates its fortieth anniversary

In the year 1973, Braulio de León Navarro, encouraged by a group of young people, some of whom were already part of the parish choir of the church of San Ginés in Arrecife, decided to put themselves to the test to carry out what would be the first polyphonic choir of the city of Arrecife.

Once started, the first rehearsals began and then continued with the commitments that were gradually coming their way. Without a doubt, the biggest commitment was framed within the festivities of the patron saint of Arrecife, San Ginés, to whom they joined to sing the mass on the main day of his festival.

Forty years later, the current choir members have joined together and, together with all those members who have belonged to this great family, celebrated this anniversary on Saturday afternoon in the church of San Ginés.

For this special occasion, they decided to sing the mass of the Italian composer specialized in sacred music, Lorenzo Perosi. An ecclesiastic, a very prolific author who, according to Arturo Sacchetti, composed more than three thousand works.

The Holy Mass was presided over by the parish priest of San Ginés, D. Miguel Hernández, who had a very special memory for Braulio de León and all those deceased members.

At the end of the Holy Mass, the rest of the members who had been invited to participate in such a special day joined the current choir members. It was in this second part where the four directors who have been part of the direction of the choir and in this order, Piedad del Rio, Luis Alberto González, Alicia García and the current José Antonio Elías each chose a musical composition and thus individually directed all the choir members present there. The audience was very enthusiastic and rewarded them with their applause.
