The audience that packed the Jameos del Agua auditorium last Saturday to enjoy the staging of 'Isla Sonora', an original idea by the Los Campesinos Folk Group framed in the 25th Anniversary of Lanzarote as a World Biosphere Reserve, described it as "spectacular".
The show displays the natural landscapes that Lanzarote offers to visitors such as La Geria, the Salinas de Janubio, Los Hervideros, as well as its volcanoes, beaches and popular architecture, elements highly valued by the thousands of visitors who arrive on the island every day and to which are also joined the ancestral traditions manifestations that Los Campesinos brought to the stage of Los Jameos such as the music and liturgical songs that the Ranchos de Pascuas perform every Christmas.
Another manifestation present was that represented by Los Buches, whose marine chords and multicolored clothing are present in every Carnival and to which is also joined one of the oldest in the Canary Islands, Los Diabletes de Teguise, with origins that must be sought in their competitive dances of rituals as well as festive of the ancient mahos.
Classical music and traditional music
Los Campesinos took care of the smallest detail of a staging where classical music also had a very important space sheltering the voices of the participating soloists and dancers, sharing space with the chords of traditional peasant music. A figure that was also present in the show was that of the shepherd, a man tanned by the sun and wind of Lanzarote who became a claim for visitors who came to the island.
Another of the legacies that have also contributed to the award as a Biosphere Reserve was and still is today the traditional clothing of Lanzarote very austere and free of luxuries that women used for the hard work of the field, always with their heads covered by the scarf and the wide-brimmed hat to protect themselves from the sun of Lanzarote.
A giant screen to project the unique landscapes
The show featured a giant screen on which unique landscapes of Lanzarote and traditional and popular festive events were projected. 'Isla Sonora' an original idea, with script and composition in the traditional part by Benito Cabrera. The direction and composition of the classical part is by Fran Yanes, the traditional musical direction of Los Campesinos by Carmelo Pérez and the general direction and production by Miguel Ángel Corujo.
Among those attending the show was the Councilor for the Biosphere Reserve in Lanzarote, Rafael Juan González. At the end of the performance, all the participants gathered on stage to thank the audience for their attendance, who stood up and applauded insistently.
