El Instituto Canario de Calidad Agroalimentaria (ICCA) has published the Resolution by which the Official Agrocanarias Wine Competition 2026 is convened, aimed at recognizing the best wine productions with Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) elaborated and bottled in the archipelago. As a novelty of this edition, the incorporation of vermouths to the competition stands out.

According to explained the director of the ICCA, Luis Arráez Guadalupe, the contest, which will be held in El Hierro from May 12 to 14, 2026 and in Tenerife on May 19, has fourteen different categories according to the type of grape and the method of elaboration, and has the purpose of promoting these productions of the archipelago, “granting a quality distinction to all awarded wines and offering wineries support in the commercialization of their differentiated quality productions in front of an increasingly demanding consumer in a global market”.

The period for submission of applications will conclude at 23:59 hours on May 5 , 2026. To access the registration application and obtain additional information about the competition, you can access the electronic headquarters of the Canarian Executive .

In this edition, white and still red wines produced in the 2024-2025, 2022-2023 or previous vintages, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, sweet Malvasia, dry rosé, liqueur wines, tea wines, and sparkling wines can participate. A new category is also implemented this year, that of vermouths, a production that has been gaining prominence in the islands in recent years.

The productions presented must correspond to qualified items and commercial brands available on the market, and comply with the current legislation and regulations of the sector. In addition, a part of them must be available for commercialization at the time of registration.

Within each type and brand, different wines may be presented, provided that the labeling indicates the differences in elaboration. The presented sample must come from a homogeneous lot, whose stock in the winery at the time of registration must meet the requirements established in the competition rules according to the quantity. These shall be delivered at the ICCA facilities at the Enological Station (Experimental Winery), located on Carretera El Boquerón, in Valle de Guerra (Tenerife) until May 7.

The competition will be governed by a system of blind tasting, where the tasting panel, made up of about twenty tasters, specialists in the analysis of agri-food products, will evaluate the samples without knowing their origin, awarding with their evaluations the Grand Gold Medals, Gold Medals and Silver Medals, and the special distinctions of Best Wine of Canarias, Best Wine chosen by the Oenologists of Canarias, Best Organic Wine of Canarias, Best Vermouth Production of Canarias and Best Image and Presentation.

The distinguished productions will be able to use for one year the official badge of the received award and will participate in the different events of encouragement and promotion that the ICCA organizes throughout the year.

Finally, the ICCA will cover the registration and logistics costs corresponding to the participation in the annual competition of CERVIM (Centro de Investigación, Estudios, Protección, Coordinación y Valorización de la Viticultura de Montaña) of those wineries that have been admitted to the Agrocanarias Competition. Likewise, they will be entitled to the payment of logistics costs corresponding to participation in the national wine competition determined by the Consejo de la Viña y el Vino.
