San Bartolomé allocates more than 5 million euros to reinforce the cleaning service and green areas

The new team will be composed of 15 street cleaning operators, 11 gardening professionals, a plumber, and a service technician, notably reinforcing the operational capacity in the municipality

The San Bartolomé City Council has presented the new reinforcement service for street cleaning, gardening, and conservation of public spaces and green areas of the municipality, a firm commitment by the government team which represents an investment of more than 5 million euros for the next five years.

After the bidding process concluded in 2025, the company FCC Medio Ambiente S.A.U. has been awarded the contract, consolidating and expanding the service it was already providing. This new contract introduces a substantial improvement compared to the previous one, awarded in 2021, both in human resources and material means.

The event took place in the Playa Honda Urban Park with the presence of the  mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez; the councilor for Public Services and Environment, Raúl de León; the director of the FCC Delegation in Lanzarote, Vicente Sáenz, and the service technician for the municipality of San Bartolomé, Daniel López.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that “this new contract reflects a clear commitment to reinforce public services. We have significantly increased the workforce by 27% to guarantee a cleaner, more cared for, and sustainable municipality.”

For his part, the councilor for Public Services and Environment, Raúl de León, stressed that “this reinforcement allows to improve planning and response capacity, acting with greater effectiveness in street cleaning, garden maintenance and the conservation of public spaces, especially in sensitive areas such as playgrounds”.

The director of the FCC delegation in Lanzarote, Vicente Sáenz, pointed out that “we face this new stage with the commitment to continue improving the service, incorporating innovation, sustainability and a greater provision of technical and human resources”.

More professionals and modernization of the equipment 

In this regard, the service goes from 22 to 28 workers, which represents a 27% increase in staff. The new team will be composed of 15 street cleaning operators, 11 gardening professionals, a plumber and a service technician, significantly reinforcing the operational capacity in the municipality.

Likewise, the material means are increased and modernized, incorporating new vehicles and equipment that will allow greater efficiency in tasks, thanks to two cranes at height, an open-box truck, a multiflift truck, three service vans, a pick up van and an electric bicycle, in addition to two operational premises in San Bartolomé and Playa Honda.

Among the actions that will be carried out daily stand out the sweeping and cleaning of streets, the cleaning of container surroundings and the collection of waste in public thoroughfares, as well as the elimination of weeds and the maintenance of tree pits. Also, cleaning tasks of grates, storm drains and sewers, manual cleaning of public spaces and beaches will be carried out, as well as clearing work on roads, rural paths, verges and unpaved streets.

The service also includes the disinfection of roads and surfaces, the cleaning of playgrounds and the comprehensive development of gardening work, including the management of plant waste, contributing to the continuous improvement of the urban and natural environment of the municipality.
