The 'International Music Festival of the Canary Islands' begins this week the programming of its 'En Paralelo' section with an original proposal that merges classical music, flamenco, dance and poetry, with which it joins the tribute to Federico García Lorca when 125 years of his birth are celebrated. Under the title 'Hechizo y duende', the show stars the Dúo Cassadó, who will take the stage accompanied by Iván Vargas, one of the flamenco dancers with the greatest national and international projection. Together they will tour the stages of six islands from January 12 to 19..

Integrated by the cellist Damián Martínez and the Canarian pianist Marta Moll, the 'Dúo Cassadó' returns to the festival with this new show, whose repertoire includes music compiled and harmonized by Lorca himself, Falla and
Halffter, as well as a recent creation by Jesús Villa Rojo entitled 'Lamento'. It can be enjoyed, in this order, in La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa. 'Hechizo y duende' starts from the recording made by Lorca with Encarnación López 'La Argentinita', in which you can hear Lorca himself on the piano and the mythical dancer singing, tapping and playing the castanets. As Ian Gibson says, "Lorca's work and life cannot be explained if you do not take into account the fact that Federico was a born musician. As a great enthusiast of popular heritage, he studied different treatises and songbooks, and harmonized thirteen old Spanish songs from different parts of Spain.

The 'Dúo Cassadó' has made a transcription for cello and piano of the Old Spanish Songs, which forms a central part of the show. On Friday the 12th they will be at the Insular Auditorium of La Gomera; on Saturday the 13th at the Braulio Martín House of Culture in El Paso, in La Palma; and on Monday the 15th at the Asabanos Cultural Center in El Hierro. The tour will continue on Wednesday the 17th at the Antigua Auditorium, in Fuerteventura; and the next day, Thursday the 18th at the Municipal Theater of Tías, in Lanzarote. This spell full of goblins will end at the Cultural Center of La Graciosa on Friday, January 19. In all spaces it will begin at 8:00 p.m.
