The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) announces the launch of a commemorative project on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the publication Lanzarote. Unpublished Architecture (1974-2024). The book represents one of César Manrique's most relevant works, through which he recorded the traditional architecture of his native island to serve as a “graphic document of what exists” and to take into account in order to create a “respect for the work of the most intimate expression of this people, for future guidance and as a source of its great truth”, in his own words.

This project includes several associated initiatives, including the reprinting of the book honored: Lanzarote. Unpublished Architecture. This publication, edited by the FCM Publications Service, is faithful to the first edition of 1974, although misprints and material errors have been corrected and it has been orthographically revised. To underline the commemorative nature of this 50th anniversary edition, the book will be accompanied by a special protective box and a band.

Another of the activities linked to the event will be an exhibition dedicated to the book. The inauguration will take place next Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Taro de Tahíche, headquarters of the FCM. The exhibition, of a documentary nature, curated by Fernando Gómez Aguilera, will exhibit photographic reproductions of the publication, recreations of symbolic architectural elements —such as dovecotes and ovens—, original drawings by César Manrique, unpublished images of traditional architecture from the artist's archive, fragments of texts that accompany the images, documents such as letters, or newspaper articles and objects linked to the realization of the book, among other contents.

Finally, the Pedagogical Department will carry out several parallel activities that aim to disseminate the message among schoolchildren on the island, while the Department of Cultural Programs will organize a round table on popular architecture.
