The project ‘Siembra. Cinema for young people’ continues its journey and this June will offer all the young people of the island the possibility of seeing ‘Welcome’, a film directed by Philippe Lioret that addresses the issue of migrations. For this reason, the association “Manos que no dais qué esperáis” and those known as “Héroes de Órzola” will participate in the subsequent debate.

The session will take place next Thursday, June 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Multicines Atlántida in Lanzarote. Admission will be free and people under 35 years of age will have priority.

The film tells the story of Bilan, a young Kurd who dreams of reuniting with his girlfriend in England, who has just arrived on the island, and perhaps becoming a famous footballer. The protagonist manages to reach the English Channel where he understands that he only has one opportunity to cross it and that is to swim across the 32 kilometers of icy waters of the Channel. To do this, he prepares in a municipal swimming pool where he meets Simon, an instructor in the process of divorce who promises to help him to the last consequences in order to move and recover his partner. An adventure that will forever transform the lives of both.

One of the characteristics of the project ‘Siembra. Cinema for young people’, promoted by the Tenique Cultural Association and the Island Youth Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, is that it offers the possibility of "seeing an interesting and attractive film that, in turn, deals with a socially relevant issue". In addition, as indicated above, after the screening a debate is organized between the attendees, members of the Tenique Cultural Association and associations of the island specialized in the main issues raised by each film.

Released in 2009, ‘Welcome’ received the Label Europa Cinemas Award at the Berlin Film Festival and obtained 10 nominations at the César Awards of the French Film Academy. In Spain, it received the Award for Best Screenplay at the Gijón Festival.
