The Los Campesinos Folk Group, continuing with the development of the events framed in the cultural space "Expositiva Musical", carried out this Tuesday afternoon the Zaranda Dance Workshop. The activity began with an informative conference given by Julián Rodríguez, a man experienced in the ethnographic field and a great connoisseur of the history of Lanzarote.
During his speech, Julián explained to all those who attended the classes the procedure and the materials used for the elaboration of the Lanzarote zaranda, which today still maintains the same characteristics as those used by our aborigines in their day. Once the conference was over, the director of Los Campesinos, Miguel Ángel Corujo, presented him with a diploma in gratitude.
After the conference, the workshop attendees occupied the hall of the Sociedad Democracia and very carefully followed each of the steps that must be taken in this peculiar dance created by the teacher Juan Brito Martín. The dance recreates the agricultural task of separating the straws from cereals such as wheat or barley, or legumes such as lentils, chickpeas or peas, etcetera. The work was formerly carried out on an era, now disappeared from the landscape of Lanzarote.
With these classes, Los Campesinos want to bring this dance, so representative of this family, closer to all those who wish it, as well as if any group wishes to incorporate it, in the same way that they have been representing it for 50 years. Once the workshop was over, each of the participants was given a diploma accrediting their attendance.
