The San Juan Bautista Patron Saint Festivities kicked off this past weekend in the municipality, with the participation of hundreds of people and a wide range of activities that brought together hundreds of people, neighbors, and visitors around culture, sports, and local tradition.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, highlighted that "this festivity is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the traditions and cultural richness that characterize the municipality so much." "We are very satisfied with the participation and enthusiasm we have seen at the start of these festivities," he stated.
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Alberto de León, added that "a varied and attractive program has been prepared that responds to the tastes of all ages." "From sports activities to cultural events, each event of this first weekend has reflected the Council's commitment to offer moments of coexistence for everyone," he concluded.
The program for Saturday, June 14, stood out for the celebration of the XLVI Haría Ascent, a sporting event that brought together numerous participants and fans. Followed by the V Aday Ponce Lemes Veterans Football Memorial, with the participation of local and visiting teams from Fuerteventura.
The XXVI anniversary of the Haría Craft Market also took place, where attendees enjoyed a tasting of Canarian products and then delighted in the end-of-year concert of the Municipal School of Music.
At night, Juana María Navarro Fernández officially inaugurated the festivities with her reading of the proclamation, followed by the concert of the Canarian tenor Besay Pérez accompanied by the pianist Diego Expósito.
On Sunday the 15th, the traditional San Juan Wrestling Tournament was held, which pitted the Unión Norte team from Haría against the Club de Lucha Tetir from Fuerteventura in the municipal arena.
The day also featured a children's afternoon in the square, with workshops and games for the little ones. Finally, the day culminated with the Comedy Night by the renowned comedian Aarón Gómez, at the La Tegala Sociocultural Center.
