CIC El Almacén, the cultural center that belongs to the Culture area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has hosted three new exhibitions since this week. These are the exhibitions “Casa”, by Pepa Sosa, “Treno”, by Jesús H. Verano, and “Miradas en la sombra”, by Adriana Sandec.

“Casa” is exhibited in the El Patio Room, and is an exhibition that shows the latest works by the artist from Gran Canaria, Pepa Sosa. In them, as explained by the Cabildo, the creator carries out an investigation that starts from reflecting on what are the minimum elements of a space so that we can feel at home in it, whether public or private.

Starting from materials extracted from mattress structures, with the symbolic load that this element of the home carries and its possibilities as a three-dimensional object, Sosa adds layers and new textures, with the aim of making us reflect on our past experiences, future aspirations and our concept of home.

For his part, in “Treno”, Jesús Hernández Verano uses materials such as wax, wood, ash, paper or bronze, to lead us “on a journey from a place that is familiar, close, known, to another that evokes experiences and memories of our past and of those recognizable spaces”.

Paintings, drawings and sculptural pieces come together with the aim of commemorating, by evoking those spaces, sensations and feelings of memory, desire, absence, pleasure... The exhibition is curated by Mariano Mayer.

Finally, in the photographic exhibition “Miradas en la sombra”, Adriana Sandec seeks to explore, through the photographic image, how to create a relational and emotional bond between the creator and some of the women who are excluded on the street, in the form of an artistic research exercise from which to visually testify and bring us closer “to a human reality that is on the margins of society”.

According to the Cabildo, Sandec dispenses with the story of her past, “avoiding sensationalism or falling into moral discourse and making it possible to connect or rebuild a bridge that helps us get to know the person through the discovery of her present”.

"It is a pride to have artists of such a high level"

The three artists, Sosa, Verano and Sandec, wanted to thank the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and in particular the Culture area of the Corporation, for having counted on them to exhibit at the CIC El Almacén. The three have agreed in considering the cultural center as "one of the most important in the Canary Islands".

I encourage all the people of Lanzarote to come to the CIC El Almacén to enjoy these three great exhibitions,” declared Alberto Aguiar.
