On the night of last Friday, October 25, and within the events scheduled in the V Cultural Week Haría 2013, the performance of Amigos de Portonao took place.

This event has been organized by the José Clavijo y Fajardo Foundation and the Wine and Cheese Friends Association of Lanzarote in the C.S.C. La Tegala.Rafael Curbelo, an associate member of the Foundation, introduced José Borges Cabrera and the traditional marine music group.

At 8:00 p.m., the nine members took the stage surrounded by applause from the audience. José Borges Cabrera, musical director of Amigos de Portonao, spoke in his presentation about the marine tradition in Lanzarote, the links that existed with the neighboring country, Africa, the fishing grounds so familiar to our fishermen, the fishing fleet, artisanal and commercial. He also spoke about the hallmarks of Arrecife as a fishing village, making special mention of the "Barrio de El Lomo", for which he asked that it be resumed by placing an indicative sign on its borders, as well as the restoration of the building located in the area and which was a reference for the inhabitants of the island, a colonial-style building that we all know as "El Sitio de Cabrerón".

José Borges developed his presentation interspersed with the songs of the group that he musically directs, Amigos de Portonao, who offered several compositions in the purest marine style and which are included in their two musical recordings such as "Sails and Winds of the Past" and Between Masts and Volcanoes.

Among the public was also the mayor of Haría, José Torres Stinga, who, once the performance was over, congratulated each of the members and thanked the speaker José Borges for each and every one of the historical data provided in his conference. Juan Santana, president of the organizing groups, also thanked the public for supporting these cultural days and the Amigos de Portonao for their magnificent performance.
