Once again, the Acatife Cultural Musical Association, fulfilling its supporters, celebrated its XXIX festival on Friday night on the occasion of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Carmen in Teguise. An edition that the announcer and presenter, Francisco José Navarro, will not be able to forget since he was awarded the 'Silver Volcano' of the group.
This year the chosen place was the municipal tent installed in the Plaza de La Mareta. At 9:00 p.m. the musical machinery was set in motion and for this edition they had the Cultural Musical Association "Magec", who came from the neighborhood of La Perdoma in the municipality of La Orotava on the island of Tenerife.
Magec founded in 1999 by a group of young people with true passion and enthusiasm as a result of the influence of some old friends, players and singers from various folk groups wishing to re-interpret the music of the land and also from the Latin American shore. Currently Magec is made up of 30 members directed by the professor, Juan Pablo Pérez. For their performance at the festival they chose a very varied repertoire starting with Isa airs continuing with different genres from the bolero, the ranchera, a medley to Venezuela and many others, ending with the Islas Canarias pasodoble and at the request of the public they presented them with an Isa Parrandera. The members of Magec left the stage very happy for the reception of the public who at all times supported them with their applause.
Next, the organizers, the 30 members of the Acatife Cultural Musical Association, directed in the musical part by Professor Ito Hernández and in the voice section by Professor José Antonio Elías, took the stage. Acatife began its performance with the musical sounds of the "Polka del Postigo", continuing Folías del Cantador, Timple de Mar, Linda Conejera without forgetting the Seguidillas and as a tribute to the mother they dedicated the "Arrorró", a lullaby used by the Canarian mother to put her child to sleep.
Award to announcer and presenter Francisco José Navarro
At the end of the song there was a blackout in the tent, proceeding to turn on the two screens located on the sides of the stage. At that moment, some voices were heard off surprising the presenter. Francisco José could not believe what was happening when photos of him began to be projected, many of which included passages from his professional career on Radio Lanzarote and on some stages of Lanzarote. At the same time, a voice was narrating the delivery and the altruistic work that for more than forty years and selflessly Francisco José has been doing with each and every one of the cultural groups on the island.
For his work and dedication, the Acatife Cultural Musical Association distinguished him with the highest award given to people who, like Francisco José, care so that culture in general continues to advance in society. Carlos Hernández, president of Acatife, presented him with the "Silver Volcano", with the audience standing and Francisco José very excited, it was difficult for him to articulate words to thank the distinction that had been given to him.
The mayoress of the Teguise City Council, Olivia Duque, as representative of the municipality of Teguise, thanked Francisco José for everything that his collaborations have contributed to the culture of Teguise, presenting him with a painting with a silver plate with an inscription that included her gratitude.
Once the protocol part was finished, Acatife ended the edition of its XXIX Festival, but given the insistence of the public who asked them to continue, they presented them with two new songs "De la cuadra al Pueblo y Guajirita". thus putting the finishing touch to the annual meeting with his followers.
