With the arrival of Christmas, the municipalities of the island decorate their streets and squares with multicolored lights, thus encouraging their neighbors to leave their homes and participate in the scheduled events. Last Friday, the Tinajo City Council proceeded to turn on its lights before the attentive expectation of the public that was waiting impatiently in the surroundings of the roundabout next to the church of San Roque.
This year the main theme is a tribute to sailors, and a spectacular boat named "El Quemao" has been installed, which carries a huge rotating snowman on board accompanied by its crew. On this occasion and near the boat there was a booth where the public was invited with roasted chestnuts to combat the prevailing cold in the area.
After the lighting and at the souk of the church of San Roque, the performance of the Municipal String School took place under the direction of the teachers Adrián Pérez and Roberto Gil. The students performed some popular Christmas carols and the public encouraged them with their applause. Next, the Municipal Band Peña San Roque de Tinajo under the direction of the professor Orlando Morales, with the voice of the soloist Lucía Queiruga and the choirs of the smallest of the municipality continued with a varied Christmas repertoire also receiving their applause.
The mayor Jesús Machín, very happy for the response of the public that gathered one more year to the traditional lighting, addressed all those present thanking them for their presence. He also had words of gratitude for all the workers of the City Council for the great effort carried out these days, working hard thus achieving the set objective. He wished everyone happy holidays and advised them not to lower their guard and be very careful with respect to covid.
Immediately afterwards, the Nativity Scene installed in the Plaza de San Roque was inaugurated, which this year has a space dedicated to the island of La Palma. The public who visited the Nativity Scene were presented with a homemade trout.
