The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try six defendants on November 25 in Arrecife for being part of a criminal organization dedicated to the illegal trafficking of people arriving by boat in Lanzarote so they could continue their migratory journey off the island in exchange for money.

The Public Prosecutor's Office relies on the investigations carried out by the National Police's Aliens and Borders Brigade and the Network Investigation Brigade Group XIII.

The Prosecutor's Office accuses Moroccans Z.K., H.J., MK. and Spaniards Y.B.G., Y.G.G. of belonging to a criminal organization that allegedly engaged in illegal human trafficking, collecting, housing, maintaining, and providing the necessary documents to migrant individuals who arrived irregularly by sea to Lanzarote so they could travel to the mainland or to third countries.

As alleged members of the organization in Spain, the Public Prosecutor's Office accuses Z.K. of being one of the group's leaders, with the help of the accused Y.G.G., with whom he shared a residence. Migrants were allegedly housed in this dwelling.

The Prosecutor's Office accuses M.K. of being in charge of transporting the migrant persons to Lanzarote Airport. In this regard, the Ministry points out that both Z.K. and Y.G.G. allegedly received money from the relatives of the migrant persons through payments made by Western Union to transport them with the help of M.J. to Lanzarote Airport so that they could travel to the peninsula between October and November 2020.

In this regard, the accused H.J., who is allegedly another of the group's leaders, supported by his partner Y.B.G., who allegedly housed the migrant individuals in their home while awaiting paperwork, helped transport different migrant individuals to the peninsula between September 2019 and November 2020 after receiving payment from their relatives. The Prosecutor's Office requests the provisional dismissal and archiving of the case with respect to two other defendants, considering that their participation is not proven.

The Public Prosecutor's Office classifies the events as two crimes against the rights of foreign citizens. For the defendants Z.K. and H.J., it requests nine years in prison and special disqualification from the right to passive suffrage during the term of the sentence, as well as the payment of costs. Meanwhile, for the defendants Y.G.G. and Y.B., and the defendant M.K., it requests five years and nine months in prison, as well as the payment of costs.
