This Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the 'Social Information Service for people with disabilities' and the 'Easy Reading' Service will be launched in the Arrecife Courts. These are two initiatives designed to improve the quality of judicial care for people with disabilities. They guarantee comprehensive care for them, and seek to satisfy their needs, which often go beyond the strictly legal sphere. They also aim to ensure that they can understand, on equal terms, the resolutions that are notified to them from the courts.

The service is provided from this Wednesday, every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the counter located next to the Dean's Court. With it, people with disabilities and their families can find not only legal but also social answers. It is provided by the 'Fundación Canaria de Apoyos Adepsi', which moves to the judicial building an information work that was already being carried out outside the courts, both in public administrations and by third sector entities.

For its part, the easy reading service enables a telephone number (928 227 077) and an e-mail (info@plenainclusioncanarias.org), where you can request assistance to pass judicial resolutions to a clear, simple and accessible language.

It will be provided by Plena Inclusión Canarias, an organization with extensive experience that has already signed agreements with the General Council of the Judiciary and the Prosecutor's Office. Both services will also allow monitoring of the
incidents and needs of people with disabilities.

Within the framework of the project, Plena Inclusión Canarias and Fundación Canaria de Apoyos Adepsi are giving training sessions to the staff of the Arrecife courts during the month of January. In the coming months, training days are also planned for professionals and citizens, raising awareness and disseminating the services.

Recognition

The initiative is part of the 'Guide to Care for People with Disabilities' approved by the Board of Judges of Arrecife, ratified by the Governing Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands. This body recognized and congratulated the Board of Judges for the initiative, novel at least in the Canary Islands, and requested that the presiding judge submit a semi-annual report and transfer the needs for its effectiveness. From the beginning of the preparation of the guide, it has also had the support of the Prosecutor's Office.

The project has aroused the support, commitment and collaboration of the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands. A space has been set up in the judicial building of Arrecife for the provision of the information service. Resolutions adapted to easy reading have been made available to the staff of the courts for notification in judicial cases involving people with disabilities.

The 'Social Information Service for people with disabilities' has the contribution of the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote, in an exercise of collaboration between administrations that seeks to achieve better care for citizens and that this is provided in equal conditions.
