The former president of the Cabildo, Pedro San GInés (CC), the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud and his ex-wife, Juana Fernández de las Heras, appeared this Tuesday before Court Number 2 of Arrecife, to answer for alleged crimes of embezzlement of public funds and bribery, among others.

In the case of San Ginés, he himself has confirmed that he has refused to answer the magistrate's questions. "I did not respond to the investigating judge, consistent with my adherence to the request to dismiss the case for considering this Court incompetent to investigate it," he said in a statement.

In this regard, he states that together with another of the investigated, he has requested that the procedure be passed to a different judge, and that this request "is pending resolution by the Provincial Court."

It should be remembered that Calatayud also already tried to challenge Judge Jerónimo Alonso, but his request was rejected by the Court, which described it as "unfounded."

He also did not testify before the UCO

After the search of his home within this case, San Ginés had already been summoned by the UCO at the Civil Guard barracks, but then he also refused to testify before the agents. At that time, he assured that he would do so before the magistrate, but finally, when he appeared before him, he did not answer his questions either.

According to him, he was willing to answer the Public Prosecutor. "But, to my surprise, he did not attend the hearing," he adds. However, he also did not want to respond to the private prosecution. Thus, his statement has only been to answer questions from his own lawyer and the defenses.

In his statement, San Ginés affirms that "it has already been clarified by the UCO reports that they have not found any link between the funds of Ignacio Calatayud and his family environment with me," and to support it he bases it on three brief extracts that he has made public from a summary of thousands of pages.

"Although how I paid for my home should not be the subject of investigation; I have explained in great detail how much, when and how I have paid for it, of which I will give a full account to public opinion as soon as I have access to all the documentation that was removed from my home," he adds, pointing out that he also believes he has "clarified everything concerning the hiring of Ignacio Calatayud and the collection of legal costs."

For his part, Ignacio Calatayud has also not responded to the investigating judge, nor to the prosecution, nor to the rest of the defenses, while Juana Fernández de las Heras has been the only one who has answered the magistrate.

The fourth investigated person who was summoned this Tuesday, the former secretary of Inalsa Pedro Antonio Márquez Rodríguez, finally did not appear for health reasons.
