The head of the Legal Advice of the City of Arrecife will appear in the procedure and will exercise the private prosecution against the arsonist arrested in the capital. This will allow the city to be "compensated for the damages caused by this alleged arsonist," with a police record, emphasizes the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León.
The mayor congratulates the police action, all the officers who have participated in the investigation and arrest. De León sends a message to the citizens, where he confirms that "the city council will try to ensure that the culprit, when sentenced, can compensate with his assets, present and future, all the damages caused to individuals and to the facilities and public equipment" that was affected by these fires.
In addition, he informs that the Local Police of Arrecife is "acting against the uncivil." In recent investigations, several people have been identified who throw waste in spaces of the city where municipal ordinances prevent it, says the mayor.
Arrest of the arsonist
The National Police of Arrecife has arrested a 42-year-old man, with a police record, as the alleged perpetrator of several crimes of damage by intentional fires. Between March 8 and 13 of this year, several fires occurred in central streets of the Lanzarote capital. A total of 21 containers, 9 vehicles and numerous damages to facades, including a school.
In order to determine the origin of these fires, a thorough police investigation began in which the investigators confirmed that they were intentional, thus focusing efforts on identifying the person responsible for them. The police operation culminated in the identification and location of the alleged perpetrator. After his arrest and being placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, his immediate imprisonment was decreed.
The National Police informs that so far this year and with this arrest, two people have already been arrested for similar events.
