The vice president and Minister of Economy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, highlighted this Thursday the importance of Dual Vocational Training as one of the main ways to ensure that the islands' economy continues to develop in the right direction.
That was one of the main conclusions presented after receiving the report, corresponding to the year 2023, from the Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands (CES) from its president, José Carlos Francisco, at the headquarters of the Presidency of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The document, which exceeds 260 pages, contains a dozen recommendations on matters such as population, public administration, Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF), labor market, social services, environment, diversification, digitization and digital transformation, housing, circular economy, immigration, and European funds.
Domínguez also referred, during his speech, to the fact that Dual Vocational Training contributes to Canary Islands companies "obtaining qualified labor and for citizens to have greater purchasing power."
Similarly, Domínguez pledged to continue advancing, as stated in the report, "in the updating of our REF, with a specific task to make it known to everyone and have a greater impact through the figure of the REF Commissioner, which we have already launched since 2023."
The vice president also referred to the need to diversify our economy" and implement "improvement policies aimed at correcting youth unemployment," while expressing his concern on issues related to "housing and immigration because they have continued to intensify during the months of 2024.
"This Government has carried out a decree law to address the figures found in the housing deficit and has done everything in its power to mitigate the effects of the migratory crisis that began to be noticed since 2023," he concluded.
José Carlos Francisco, for his part, explained that the data in the report "corresponds to the analysis of 2023 and the twelve recommendations contained in the document have been approved unanimously. The CES represents employers, unions, government experts, and consumers, so they are very useful. From the CES, we are working from consensus and being constructive to fulfill our function towards the Canary Island society," he concluded.
