The development of human capital, the attraction and retention of talent in the Canary Islands is one of the key objectives of the 2025 Action Program of the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), which allocates 13.6 million euros to this objective.

From the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, and as responsible for the R&D&I policies of the Government of the Canary Islands, ACIISI manages the public funds that finance R&D projects in the Canary Islands, both those of the regional Executive and those co-financed by European funds (ERDF, ESF) and state funds, in the field of scientific research, business innovation and information society.

All these actions that contemplate Research, Development and Innovation in the Canary Islands are made known to the citizens in an exercise of total transparency, also contributing to the generation of a culture of R&D&I in the Canary Islands, understanding that they are pillars on which the prosperity of the regions is based, in a direct relationship between the level of R&D&I and the solidity of their industries and economies.

Thus, the ACIISI website details the information of the four major budgetary axes of the 2025 Action Program: Human Capital Researcher and Innovator; Support for Basic and Applied Research; Support for Business Innovation, and Deployment of the Information Society.

Also included are the other four major lines of work with objectives and budget allocated to boost the R&D&I ecosystem and digital transformation in the Canary Islands, such as: European projects captured in competitive calls (Interreg MAC Program 2021-2027), projects co-financed by ACIISI, leading European projects in which it participates, and other projects financed by the same entity.

This Program has as specific objectives the incorporation of innovative personnel into the productive fabric through calls for subsidies; the Diginnova Training Program; the Promotion of Scientific, Technological and Innovative Culture; Subsidies nominated to the Women for Africa Foundation (Science and Women Training Project); Training of research personnel; Catalina Ruiz Program; Grantecan contribution; ULL Predoctoral Program; ULPGC Predoctoral Program; CSIC Predoctoral Program; FCIISC Predoctoral Program; R&D Talent Retention Program.
