Vueling, an airline belonging to IAG, has presented its new operations at Lanzarote airport from June 17, in which it promotes national and international traffic on the island. In this way, one of its A320 aircraft will stay overnight at the Lanzarote airport, which will improve and increase the frequencies of existing connections with Barcelona, Oviedo and Copenhagen. In addition, it has also announced a new direct route with Zaragoza that will be launched every Sunday from June 19.
Thus, from June 17, the airline plans to increase up to 12 weekly frequencies on the route with Barcelona – 4 more frequencies compared to the same period in 2021.
“It is excellent news that Vueling is once again committed to Lanzarote, improving our air connectivity with new routes, greater frequencies on existing ones and, above all, with the overnight stay of an aircraft at our airport, as it will optimize the departure times of flights to the Peninsula”, says the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.
“This news also represents a support for the Cabildo, since it reflects the efforts we have been making to recover tourist flows for the summer and to increase air connectivity, especially in the peninsular market. I thank Vueling for its contribution to making Lanzarote a safe and connected destination”, highlights the president.
This increase and improvement of schedules with Vueling's main base at Barcelona Airport also increases connection flight options by 78%, given the vast network that Vueling has in El Prat. In this new operation, another novelty is the increase in frequencies on the route that connects Lanzarote with Oviedo, which adds a new weekly frequency and will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays.
More frequencies with Denmark and the Netherlands
At an international level, Vueling will also increase the current link between Lanzarote and Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, which will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The connection with the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, is also maintained every Monday and Friday.
“We are very proud to be able to announce the overnight stay of an aircraft in Lanzarote to continue promoting and improving the national and international connectivity of the island and help the recovery of tourism”, says Vueling's commercial director, Carolyn Prowse.
From March 26 to October 29, Vueling schedules a total of up to 120 destinations in more than 30 countries, reinforcing the frequencies offered compared to 2021 and reaching a level similar to that of 2019. The airline offers flights to 120 destinations in more than 30 countries.
For Easter, Vueling doubles its connections with 296 connections (92 domestic and 204 international) hoping to contribute to a change in trend for Spanish tourism. The company focuses on "the recovery of the international market", after Vueling was already the leader in the recovery of the domestic market in Spain in 2021, being the largest in Europe.
