Traffic in the Port of Arrecife increases in August by 23.91% compared to 2021

Regular passenger traffic has decreased by 23%, while goods increased by 24.04% and containers by 9.63%.

Traffic in the Port of Arrecife has experienced an increase of 23.91% compared to August 2021, according to data provided by the Port Authority in a statement. 

However, regular passenger traffic has decreased by 23%, while goods increased by 24.04% and containers by 9.63%.

The port system of the province of Las Palmas - which includes the ports of Las Palmas, Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario, Arinaga and Salinetas - maintains the growth of total traffic in the accumulated from January to August 2022 compared to 2019, with an increase of 8.16%, and from 2022 in relation to 2021, when it grew by 0.98%. Last August, Ports of Las Palmas grew by 4.91%.

The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP), Luis Ibarra, has highlighted the results of the Armas Group project, which in December 2021 put into service a new passenger terminal that included the construction of berthing docks for five ships, a private investment in unprecedented maritime work in Spain.

"Exceeding 232,000 regular passengers in a month is a milestone for Ports of Las Palmas, and it is also the confirmation that the development of a brave private initiative helps to make history," said Ibarra. 

In the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an increase in its port traffic of 1.76% has been registered compared to the same month of 2021, according to its Port Authority in a statement this Monday.

It specifies that "bunkering" (fuel supply) has decreased by 0.39 percent; passenger traffic on a regular line has increased by 17.90%; ro-ro 10.11% in units and 12.55% in tons; goods have grown by 2.20% (cabotage grew by 9.40% while that from abroad fell by 1.60%) and containers fell by 3.70% (a decrease of 9.42% in terms of TEUs transits).

In the accumulated of January-August 2022, compared to the same period of 2019, the year before the coronavirus crisis, total traffic grew by 8.74%. Passenger traffic on a regular line increased by 18.72%; tons of goods grew by 9.20%; frozen fish did so by 43.30%; "bunkering" increased by 4.85%; TEUs increased by 18.23%; and ro-ro gained 5.73% in units and 4.79% in tons.

In Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, traffic increased in August 2022 by 32.48% compared to the same month of 2021; regular passengers decreased by 12.79 percent; goods increased by 32.55%, as well as containers, 35.37%.

In the port of Arinaga, in Gran Canaria, traffic fell in August by 45.13% compared to the same month of 2021 and in that of Salinetas, also on the aforementioned island, -specialized in supplying fuel for aviation-, traffic increased in August 2022 by 91.40% compared to the same month of 2021. It moved 60,704 tons, which reflects the reactivation of the air sector and the economy associated with tourism.
