The Canary Islands accounted for 29% of international tourism to Spain in January

That month, more than 1.2 million foreign tourists arrived in the archipelago

In January, the Canary Islands were the leading destination in the country for international tourists, accounting for 29% of total arrivals, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute. Catalonia followed the Canary Islands, with 19.2%, and Andalusia with 13.8%.

Arrivals to the Canary archipelago exceeded 1.2 million, 58.5% more than in January 2022. The main countries of residence of tourists arriving in the Canary Islands were the United Kingdom (with 33.2% of the total) and Germany (18.0%).

The number of tourists visiting Catalonia increased by 71.6% to 798,331. 18.1% come from France and 10.6% from Italy.

The third main destination community by number of tourists is Andalusia, with 571,873 and an annual increase of 76.8%. The United Kingdom is the main country of origin (with 16.3% of the total), followed by the aggregate of Nordic countries (11.3%).

In the rest of the communities, the number of tourists increased by 113.1% in the Community of Madrid, 71% in the Valencian Community and 54.5% in the Balearic Islands.
