The César Manrique airport in Lanzarote has marked its best month of May in history in terms of passenger movement, with 580,136 travelers, compared to the previous record of 2018 established at 570,149, according to a report by National Airports (AENA), collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
Although May tends to be a month with less traffic, as it does not coincide with the Easter and summer holiday periods, it has managed to stand out for its good data compared to previous years.
In addition, it should be noted that the fifth month of 2022 exceeded the figures of last year by 281.3%, a period very marked by the strong restrictions of the pandemic. Operations remain stable, but freight traffic is only half full
As for air operations, these decrease again compared to the previous month for the second consecutive time, with 5,107 operations in May, registering 204 less than in April and 229 less than in March, but increase by 125% more if compared to the fifth month of 2021.
In addition, if compared with the figures prior to the pandemic, these remain very similar and even grow, since in May 2019 there were 4,803 operations.
For its part, freight transport has still not recovered from the blow of the coronavirus crisis, since in 2019 124,114 tons were transported, more than double that in May of this year (50,437 tons).
In addition, merchandise also decreases in relation to the month of April, which marked 52,498 tons. However, they experienced an increase of 71.6% compared to May 2021, where total traffic stood at only 29,393 tons, a little more than half.
