The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez seeks with the new decree of urgent measures, among other objectives, to encourage the private sector to build protected housing, because only public administrations cannot respond to the "so important" demand that exists.
Rodríguez, after meeting with representatives of the Provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco), has specified that, according to the records of the Canary Housing Institute, there are more than 25,000 pending a public housing, so the Canary Housing Plan, which proposes the construction of 2,000 houses, is insufficient.
The counselor, who has pointed out that it is "evident" that the action of the Government is not enough, has indicated that the decree of urgent measures on housing seeks, in addition to speeding up the construction of public housing, to encourage the private sector to build protected housing again.
"We need to put many more protected homes on the market, we need to respond to the enormous demand for housing that exists in the Canary Islands," he said.
For his part, the president of the Provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Óscar Izquierdo, has expressed his support for working "in unity" with the aim of putting the largest number of homes possible on the market in the shortest possible time.
Izquierdo has taken the opportunity to highlight the "very serious" problem of lack of labor and has made an "urgent" call to "young people and women to join the foot of the work."
