The Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote have consolidated their commitment to local viticulture by significantly increasing the sale of wines with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin and guaranteeing an equitable distribution among all wineries.
The data reflect a growing trajectory: In 2022, under the previous management, 12,602 bottles were sold. In 2023, during the first six months of the year, 6,930 bottles were sold, while in the last six months, already with the new management model of the Entity, the figure rose to 8,028 bottles. In 2024, sales reached 21,511 bottles, a significant increase compared to the 12,602 bottles sold in 2022. This represents a growth of nearly double in just two years.
According to forecasts for 2025, based on current data, sales are expected to maintain a clearly upward trend, reaching more than 30,000 bottles during the year, which would represent a notable growth compared to the figures recorded in previous years. This positive evolution is already observed in the first months of the year, given that in January and February 2025 alone, 4,701 bottles have been sold, consolidating a firm and growing commitment to the island's wines.
A more inclusive management for all wineries with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin
The change in management has allowed 23 local wineries with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin to have a real and effective presence in the restaurants and events of the Centers, compared to the 14 wineries that appeared in the previous administration. However, although the presence of these 14 wineries was mentioned, in practice, sales were dominated by only three of them, while the rest had hardly any rotation or real sales opportunities.
Now, all wineries have the opportunity to sell their production, thanks to a rotation system that balances their presence in both restaurants and events. In the past, events only offered wines from a small group of wineries, which limited diversity and consolidated a model in which only a few brands had prominence. Currently, all wineries are represented and their wines are part of the usual offer at each event, ensuring greater equity and visibility.
This approach has also transformed the wine list of the Centers' restaurants, expanding the service by the glass, which has gone from 20 references from only 4 wineries to 75 references that include the variety of all wineries with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin.
Growth without compromising economic sustainability
This progress also responds to compliance with article 5 of the EPEL Statutes, which requires efficient management of resources and the profitability of the island's natural heritage. The Centers must guarantee the sustainability of their gastronomic offer, maintaining a balance between promoting local production and the viability of the business model.
A firm commitment to Lanzarote wine
"The data are clear: today wine with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin has more presence than ever in the Centers," said Ángel Vázquez, councilor of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote. "We have evolved from an exclusive system, in which a few wineries concentrated most of the sales and some were even vetoed, being left out of the offer, towards a fairer and more equitable model. This new approach benefits all producers on the island, guaranteeing greater rotation and improving the visibility of their wines in our spaces."
With these figures and a transparent management model, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote "reaffirm their commitment to the local wine sector, betting on the quality and diversity of wines with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin as a fundamental part of their gastronomic identity".
