Unemployment decreases in Lanzarote by 239 people at the end of November

Unemployment has decreased more among women and less among young people on the island last November

The unemployment rate in Lanzarote has fallen in November by 2.9%, which is equivalent to 239 fewer people in unemployment, according to the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (OBECAN) published this Monday.

After the fall in employment recorded in October when the unemployment lists added 218 more people, November recovers the downward path. The total number of unemployed on the island stands at 8,033.

A month ago there were 8,272 and on this day a year ago 9,227 were counted, so the year-on-year decrease is equivalent to 12.9%.

By sex, the decrease has been greater among women, whose unemployment rate has fallen by 3.4%, while among men the decrease has been 2.3%.

By age, unemployment falls in all groups, except for young people, among whom it increases by 2.4%. Among those aged between 25 and 44, unemployment has decreased on the island by 2.6%, while among those over 45 the fall has been 3.4%.

 

Unemployment decreases in all municipalities except Yaiza and Tías

By municipalities, unemployment decreases in Arrecife by 3.1%, which means 131 fewer people in unemployment. The total number of unemployed in the capital now amounts to 4,081 citizens.

With a decrease of 5.2%, Haría experiences the largest percentage drop in unemployment among the island's municipalities. There are 17 fewer unemployed, so the total number of unemployed in the north amounts to 310 people.

Teguise and San Bartolomé also registered a sharp decrease in unemployment in November, of 4.6% and 4.2% respectively. Thus, 47 fewer unemployed are counted in Teguise, its total now amounts to 984 people in unemployment, and 40 less in San Bartolomé, which means a total of 921 people unemployed.

In Tinajo, the decrease has been 3.8%, which is equivalent to 13 fewer people unemployed. The total number of unemployed in the western municipality is currently 327 people.

Tías and Yaiza are the only municipalities where unemployment has increased, minimally in Tías (0.1%), that is, one more unemployed than the previous month, so the total for the municipality that includes Puerto del Carmen, amounts to 820 unemployed.

In Yaiza 8 more people joined the unemployment lists, 1.4% more compared to the previous month. The total number of unemployed in the south is currently 590 people.
