Permanent contracts not only continue to grow on the island of Lanzarote, after the entry into force of the labor reform, but already represent 63% of the total in the month of May, with 3,278 agreements signed, according to a report by the Canarian Employment Observatory (OBECAN), collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
In the fifth month of the year, 27 more contracts were registered than in April, marking the highest figure since records have been kept. In addition, if compared to last year, the difference is exponential, since in May 2021 only 318 permanent agreements were registered, 2,960 less than this May. The accumulated figure is already 11,257 permanent contracts, 3,205 more than in the whole of last year, when 8,052 agreements were signed.
For their part, fixed-term contracts have been progressively decreasing so far this year in Lanzarote, as permanent contracts have increased. They now account for 37% of the total, with 1,946 agreements, compared to 83% in the same month of 2021. As for the duration of these temporary contracts, 647 of the total were for less than one month, 484 for one to three months, 311 for three to six months, 62 contracts for more than 6 months and 442 were for an indefinite duration.
Finally, it should be noted that in May the total number of contracts registered decreased by 0.2% compared to April, with 5,224 agreements, although the figure rose by 172.2% compared to 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, when there were only 1,919. In addition, the accumulated figure shows this gradual recovery of the Spanish economy after the stoppage with 24,813 contracts signed until May 2022, compared to 8,858 in 2021.
By municipalities, Arrecife (1,563), Yaiza (1,157) and Tías (1,116) account for the bulk of the total, followed by Teguise (648), San Bartolomé (496), Haría (171) and Tinajo (73). It should be noted that the signing of contracts increases exclusively in the capital, in Haría and in San Bartolomé, and decreases in the rest, although without major falls.
The hotel and catering sector is, once again, the sector par excellence, with 2,530 contracts signed, followed by services with 1,529, commerce with 706, construction with 344, industry with 91 and agriculture with 24. As for the profile of those hired, 2,777 were men and 2,447 women, the majority with secondary (3,290) and primary (1,508) education and with a range of between 20 and 45 years.
