Registered unemployment fell sharply in Lanzarote in March, by 310 people, who are no longer on the unemployment lists, bringing the island's total to 7,725 unemployed.
This breaks the barrier of 8,000 unemployed in Lanzarote and raises the decrease in the last twelve months to 1,109 people, according to the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (Obecan).
By municipalities, the largest decreases in unemployment were recorded in Tías and Teguise.
The municipality that includes Puerto del Carmen experienced a decrease of 9%. That's 79 fewer people in unemployment, bringing its total to 795 unemployed.
In Teguise there was a decrease of 4.2%, which is equivalent to 41 fewer people in unemployment, bringing the total to 887 unemployed citizens.
In the capital, the decrease was 3.9%, that is, 56 fewer people in unemployment, bringing the total to 3,884.
In San Bartolomé there was also a good employment performance in March, which resulted in a decrease of 3.1%. Thus, the municipality has 28 fewer people in unemployment, bringing the total to 887.
In Tinajo, Haría and Yaiza, unemployment barely decreased in March. In Tinajo, 4 fewer people were counted in unemployment, bringing the current total to 323.
Haría and Yaiza counted one less person on each of their unemployment lists at the end of March. Thus, in the north, the total number of unemployed stands at 311 people, while in the south it is 599 citizens.
In the whole of the Canary Islands, unemployment has decreased by 3.1% in March, which is equivalent to 5,775 fewer people on the unemployment lists.
