The unemployment rate falls again in Lanzarote in December. It has done so by 1.4%, which is equivalent to 110 fewer people in unemployment. Thus, the barrier of 8,000 unemployed is broken, reaching 7,923 unemployed people on the island, according to data from the Canarian Employment Observatory (OBECAN).
The fall in unemployment in December adds to the decrease recorded in November, when 239 people left the unemployment lists.
A month ago there were 8,033 and on this day a year ago 8,937 were counted, so the year-on-year decrease is equivalent to 11.3%.
By sex, the decrease has been much greater among women, whose unemployment rate has fallen by 2.1%, while among men the decrease has been 0.3%.
By age, unemployment falls in all groups, particularly among those under 25, whose unemployment rate on the island decreases by 8.8%).
Unemployment decreases in all municipalities except Tías
By municipalities, unemployment decreases in Arrecife by 1.4%, which is equivalent to 58 fewer people in unemployment. The total number of unemployed in the capital now amounts to 4,023 citizens.
Teguise and Tinajo experienced the largest percentage decreases in December, 3% and 2.8% respectively. Thus, 30 fewer unemployed are counted in Teguise, its total now amounts to 954 people in unemployment, and nine fewer unemployed in Tinajo, which represents a total of 318 people unemployed.
In San Bartolomé, the decrease has been 0.8%, which is equivalent to seven fewer people unemployed. The total number of unemployed in the municipality that includes Playa Honda, is currently 914 people.
With a decrease of 0.6%, Haría experiences the smallest percentage decrease in unemployment among the municipalities of the island. There are two fewer unemployed, so the total number of unemployed in the north amounts to 308 people.
In Yaiza, eight people left the unemployment lists, 1.4% less compared to the previous month. The total number of unemployed in the south is 582 people at present.
Tías is the only municipality where unemployment has increased in December by adding four more unemployed (0.5%). The total for Tías currently amounts to 824 unemployed.
