The General Director of Labor of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Ramón Rodríguez, announced this Tuesday the award of the study on the ergonomic and psychosocial conditions in the hotel sector of the islands, in order to improve the health of the professionals of these establishments, paying special attention to the room attendants.
Rodríguez has shown the sensitivity of the Ministry to "solve the demands of the workers in the sector." For this reason, he recalled that "the study, in addition to evaluating the mental health of hospitality professionals for the first time, will carry out a diagnosis of the conditions in which they perform their work to identify needs, such as the incorporation of adjustable beds or motorized cleaning carts that facilitate their work."
The regional Executive has promoted this study that had been more than ten years without being updated. For the diagnosis, Icasel technicians will make visits to 228 hotels on the seven islands.
This work will be carried out by UTE PRL SO-C5 and coordinated by Icasel, the managing body of the occupational safety and health policy in the Canary Islands, which celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2024. "A series of specific activities will be organized to help make the work of Icasel known to the public," Rodríguez said.
To materialize its objectives, it should be noted that the autonomous community of the Canary Islands made available to companies last July the preventive tool to adapt and apply the study of times to the pace and workload of the professional group of room attendants, the first document of these characteristics that is put in place in the Canary Islands.
