In Canary Islands, a total of 92,356 job opportunities will be generated for Vocational Training (FP) technicians by 2030. This is one of the main conclusions about the archipelago from the annual Vocational Training report prepared by CaixaBank Dualiza in collaboration with Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness of the University of Deusto.

According to these data, the services sector will be where the Canary Islands economy will mostly accumulate these new jobs, specifically, around 88%. In construction, 7% will be generated and 4.5% in industry.

In total, throughout Spain, these jobs for FP technicians will amount to 2,131,325, of which more than one million (1,219,136) correspond to those who are studying a Higher Grade FP and slightly less (912,189) to those who are studying a Middle Grade.

These data reflect that one in four jobs that are generated throughout the economy will be for FP, since it is expected that the rise in job opportunities will amount to 8,654,362 by 2030.

The sectors where more employment will be generated will be commerce, education, hospitality, construction and industry and this development will have a direct translation to employment in Vocational Training.

"It remains to be seen whether Vocational Training will have sufficient tools to provide professionals to meet the demands that will be generated in each of these sectors. Increasing the completion rates of FP studies in the stipulated time will be a key aspect in this regard," the report explains. Until now, FP has always responded more quickly than other training options to social changes.

¿Shortage of FP technicians?

The lack of qualified professionals with FP qualifications to respond to market demands is seen as a persistent problem in the coming years, according to the report, which puts the number of 92,500 job opportunities for FP that will not be covered throughout Spain until 2030, taking into account the employment that will be generated, as well as the people who graduate.

CaixaBank Dualiza believes that this deficit is attenuated by the entry into force of the new FP Law, which will have a direct impact on job creation for two reasons.

The first, the increase in resources in the system will translate into an increase in the number of FP places offered, which, directly, will affect a greater number of people with FP qualifications joining the labor market.

The second, which will facilitate a greater adaptation of these graduates to the needs of the productive fabric, which will increase the employability of FP technicians, allowing the change in social perception, as well as that of employers themselves towards these qualifications.

However, it is expected that this impact caused by the new regulations will only begin to be noticed from 2026 when the first graduates promoted by this regulatory framework will access the market.
