The Arrecife City Council has hired 42 people, who were previously unemployed, to join the municipal staff for the next eight months. These hires are part of the 'Arrecife Activa 2023' project, thanks to a grant from the Canarian Employment Service.
The capital's mayor has highlighted the importance of this new social employment plan, the first to be launched in this new term, thanks to the boost in labor matters promoted by his government team. According to de León, "with this employment plan, these 42 people will have economic resources for their families for the next eight months and can, in parallel, improve and increase their personal qualifications to achieve other job opportunities in the companies of Lanzarote after this work period in the Consistory."
For his part, the Councilor for Employment, Maciot Cabrera, emphasized that "promoting employment and enhancing training to facilitate access to the labor market is one of the main objectives of the Area I lead, so we will continue to support all those job-generating projects that incorporate training plans that improve the employability of the participants."

The purpose of the call, aimed at long-term unemployed people, is the development of projects that involve the hiring of unemployed workers, long-term unemployed, which combines two instruments of active employment policies, such as, on the one hand, experience and professional practice, with the execution of works and services of general and social interest, and on the other hand, the acquisition of training in basic skills that enable access to obtaining the title of graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and the acquisition of key skills that facilitate access to obtaining professional certificates.
The new workers will perform tasks of recovery and improvement of municipal public spaces in the neighborhoods of the capital, municipal sports and educational infrastructures; beautification, maintenance and conservation of beaches, playgrounds and bio-healthy areas, as well as public-owned plots; cultural training plan and adaptation and maintenance of socio-cultural facilities.
Among the categories of the people hired are teachers, cleaning laborers, painter laborers, construction laborers, building maintenance laborers and socio-cultural monitors.
The subsidy allocated to the capital's City Council for the execution of the 'Arrecife Activa 2023' project amounts to "397,362.62 euros", financed from the credit allocated in the application of the Expenditure Budget of the SCE for the year 2023 and the Arrecife City Council, with the amount of the subsidy intended to cover the salary costs of the participating workers, including the company's Social Security contribution for all concepts.
