The Zara store on Calle Real in Arrecife is now history. The largest firm of the Inditex group has definitively closed the premises, thus abandoning the only store it had until now in the capital of the island.
This closure is not the first to occur in that emblematic commercial street and its surroundings, but residents and merchants fear the consequences it may have for the rest. And although the business had been falling, especially since the beginning of the pandemic, Zara still attracted customers to the area who later visited other establishments.
In the case of Zara, their intention is to move to the new shopping center that is being built in Arrecife, in the area occupied by the old Garavilla warehouses. However, that is still several months away.
For the moment, the only store it maintains on the island is inside another shopping center, in this case in Puerto del Carmen.
