The number of workers in temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) in the Canary Islands stood at 70,951 people on June 30, which is 5,810 less than in May, as reported this Friday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.

By provinces, in Las Palmas there are 41,324 people in ERTE, 3,797 less than the previous month; and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife there are 29,627 employees in this situation, after a drop of 2,013 between May and June.

Meanwhile, in the whole of Spain, the number of workers in ERTE in June was 447,800 people, a figure that represents 44,692 workers less than in May according to the date of registration of the file and 94,322 less depending on the date of application.

One in four people in ERTE works in the hospitality industry

There is a significant sectoral concentration of workers protected by ERTE throughout Spain, as 25.5% of protected workers belong to the hospitality industry (food and beverage service), with 114,174 affected.

This activity, together with accommodation services, concentrates 43.1% of workers in ERTE. Specifically, accommodation services have 78,789 workers in ERTE, 17.6% of the total number of workers protected by this instrument.

In total, the number of workers who were in an ERTE in the month of June represented 3.02% of the total number of affiliates to the General Regime, not counting its special systems.

The activities with the highest percentage of their affiliates in ERTE are travel agencies (47.99% of the total of their affiliates); air transport (34.5%) and accommodation services (25.8%), all of them included among the sectors 'ultra-protected' by the ERTE.

In absolute terms, the activity with the highest number of workers in ERTE is food and beverage service (hospitality), with more than 114,170 affected, followed by accommodation services (78,789), retail trade (37,084 employees), wholesale trade (24,171), travel agencies (18,501), sports and entertainment activities (16,405 affected) and air transport (12,111 workers in ERTE).

There is also a large concentration of ERTE in areas with greater tourist activity, according to the Ministry, which directly affects the Canary Islands.

Thus, Las Palmas is the province with the highest percentage of affiliates under some form of ERTE, with 12.7% of its affiliates protected. It is followed by Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with 10.35%, and the Balearic Islands, with 5.08% of its workers in ERTE.

At the other extreme are the provinces of Castellón, Guadalajara, Murcia, Ciudad Real, Huelva and Cuenca, which have less than 2% of the total of their affiliates in an ERTE.
