The Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote have replaced some of the tubes of the geysers that are used in the geothermal demonstrations of Montañas del Fuego. Specifically, four tubes have been replaced that were "very deteriorated due to their age and the high temperatures of the subsoil to which they are subjected, and the effect of the continuous impacts of the demonstrations and the high degree of oxidation derived from the use of water in order to recover the functionality of one of the most unique spaces in the island's geography", they point out from the Centers. According to reports, the total cost of this "complex operation carried out with the mandatory authorizations" has amounted to 65,113 euros.
This action is justified in reports from the Director of Conservation and Maintenance of the CACT, which stated the "considerable" deterioration detected in the whole of this structure, which dates back to 1970, and which rests on a bed of steel and concrete beams arranged horizontally. This layer of beams and concrete serves as an anchor for the tubes that probe from the surface to a depth of 12-15 meters, where the geothermal anomalies are located. "The age of that platform and the effects of the action of water caused the disintegration of the concrete and the oxidation of the steel frame", they point out. The oxidation that the tubes also presented led to their breakage in different areas and even "the loss of the mouth in the shape of a glass and, therefore, its functionality". Therefore, the reports concluded that this intervention was necessary, which has served for the sanitation and reconstruction of the anchoring slab of the tubes, the replacement of the deteriorated tubes and the reconstruction of the mouths in the shape of a base.
The Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, and the CEO of the CACT, José Juan Lorenzo, agree in pointing out that this intervention demonstrates the "high degree of commitment acquired by the management of the Centers with the maintenance of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, as shown by the 107% increase in the item assigned for this purpose in the budget for the current year, and aims to condition and enhance one of the most recognizable and recognized iconographic spaces of Lanzarote for the enjoyment of tourists and residents".
