At the close of last May, Lanzarote had a total of 5,036 companies, six more than the previous month and 105 more than were recorded twelve months ago, according to the Lanzarote Data Center based on Social Security statistics.
Arrecife added 20 companies in May to reach 1,912 businesses, while San Bartolomé incorporated five new businesses to total 489.
In the rest of the municipalities the number of companies decreased. Both Tías and Yaiza lost seven companies each and are left with 1,070 and 648 businesses respectively.
In Teguise, three companies were lost in May compared to April, so that the total number of businesses in the municipality is currently 729. Also in Tinajo three fewer companies were recorded, so that the total for the municipality remains at 135 businesses.
In Haría two companies were lost, so its business count remains at a total of 111 businesses.
Almost a third of Lanzarote's businesses are micro-enterprises with fewer than nine employees. Up to 49 employees there are 300 businesses on the island, while there are 92 businesses with a workforce of more than 50 employees.
