The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands has authorized, through the General Directorate of Energy, a direct concession to Lanzarote of a subsidy of 570,250 euros "to boost the Island towards the energy transition."
The islands of La Palma and Fuerteventura will also benefit from this subsidy with an economic amount equal to that of Lanzarote, so in total the Government of the Canary Islands will invest 1,710,750 euros.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote will manage that sum to "promote the implementation of small renewable energy self-consumption facilities by the population”, thus increasing the subsidies it has granted for this purpose since 2014, and which it states have been "widely accepted by the population."
The Government of the Canary Islands points out that the Island Corporation has initiated in recent years “a line based on reducing dependence on fossil fuels in its facilities focused on a change in the energy model, so it will carry out several photovoltaic installations in its public buildings, bearing in mind the exemplary effect that these measures have on the population”
The councilor responsible for the area, José Antonio Valbuena, highlights the importance of these subsidies, which are granted for reasons of public interest, to promote electric mobility and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, opting for the promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency. “The objective of this type of aid is to promote the energy transition in our islands to reach the goal of a neutral emission archipelago in 2040.”
This action aims to contribute to the conservation of the environment through the reduction of CO2 emissions and contribute to the energy saving of homes by achieving the efficiency and autonomy of the energy system, and, therefore, reduce its consumption.
