The average gross salary in the Canary Islands was 1,568 euros per month last year (18,816 euros per year), which resulted in 31.9% below the average European salary, according to data published this Monday in the Adecco annual salary report.
Thus, the Canary Islands are 254 euros behind the average Spanish salary, which is 1,822 euros per month in 2022, "historical maximums", which in comparison with the European Union (EU) was 20.9% lower in the case of the Spanish average.
In the EU, the average monthly remuneration amounted to 2,302 euros, a difference of 480 euros per month in absolute terms compared to Spain and 734 euros per month compared to the Canary Islands.
This study, based on data from the Quarterly Labor Cost Survey and Eurostat, indicates that the salary gap between the Canary Islands and Europe reached a difference of 8,809 euros per year in 2022, but that the islands continue in an intermediate position, with 15 European countries with salaries lower than those of the Canary Islands, while another 12 countries have higher remunerations.
The countries with the highest salaries are Luxembourg (3,713 euros), Denmark (3,573 euros), Germany (3,148 euros), Ireland (3,051 euros), Belgium (3,007 euros) and Holland (2,964 euros).
On the other hand, the regions with the lowest salaries correspond to Bulgaria (650 euros), Romania (796 euros), Hungary (852 euros), Croatia (903 euros) and Poland (941 euros).
