In the Canary Islands' energy mix in January, combined cycle generation continues to be the primary source of electricity production with a percentage of 39.4% of the total, but renewables and emission-free technologies increased by 95.7% compared to January 2022 and reached a share of 21.5% of production, with wind contributing 18.3%, according to Red Eléctrica Española.

The electricity demand in the Canary Islands archipelago in January was 731,584 MWh, 2.6% more, although if the effects of the calendar and temperatures are taken into account, the demand was 2.2% higher than in the same month of the previous year.

In Spain as a whole, a new historical maximum of electricity generation from renewables has been recorded, the production of all technologies that do not emit CO2 equivalent has been 18,827 GWh, more than 80% of the total production in the country, and have reached levels of up to 90.7% during some hours of the month.
