Puertos Canarios obtained a profit of 3.9 million euros in 2021

Revenues amounted to 12.3 million compared to 2020, while operating expenses reflected prudent behavior

The public entity Puerto Canarios obtained 3.9 million euros in profit in 2021, according to the annual accounts for that year agreed by its managing director, Manuel Ortega, and the Board of Directors, chaired by Sebastián Franquis, Minister of Public Works.

According to its conclusions, income from port services had a moderate increase in 2021 compared to 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, amounting to a total amount of 12.3 million euros.

For its part, operating and maintenance expenses reflected prudent behavior, which has made it possible to obtain a result of 3.9 million euros in profits, money that will be entirely destined for reinvestment in the improvement and maintenance of its network of ports, through the 2021-24 Ports Plan approved in December, in the previous Board of Directors.

Another of the points that were discussed at the meeting was the agreement to initiate a disciplinary proceeding against the shipping company that caused the accident in the port of Gran Tarajal in February 2018, which caused the sinking of several boats and materials.

The public entity Puertos Canarios was the one who finally assumed all the tasks of repairing the damage caused and cleaning the funds and the environment, avoiding greater evils, so the Council decided that the claim for damages and losses, in addition to the corresponding sanctions, to those who caused the accident.

At this point, the managing director reported on the opinion of the Canary Islands Advisory Council completely in favor of the theses defended by the public entity Puertos Canarios, which empowers it to impose sanctions and exercise legal actions to claim for damages caused.

The opinion of the Advisory Council, after an exhaustive analysis, has concluded that the Puertos Canarios entity acted correctly when intervening immediately in rescue and cleaning work, prioritizing the safety of people and avoiding environmental contamination.

Likewise, the Board of Directors of Puertos Canarios approved the equalization and application to the entity's personnel of the 2% increase in remuneration applicable to the personnel of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
