Last year, Lanzarote added 4,446 inhabitants to a total of 163,467, which is equivalent to a percentage growth of 2.8%, the highest among the Canary Islands.
The second island that grew the most was Fuerteventura (+2.4%), followed by La Palma (+1.47%), El Hierro (+1.37%), La Gomera (+1.24%), Tenerife (+1.16%) and Gran Canaria (+0.79%).
By municipalities, Arrecife, which added 3,343 people to a total of 68,169 inhabitants, was by far the one that grew the most in the Canary Islands, 5.1% in one year.
The second with the highest percentage growth was Yaiza, whose population increased by 4%, 698 more residents to 18,113 inhabitants, while the third was Granadilla de Abona, with a growth of 3.9%, according to data provided by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Other capitals such as Puerto del Rosario (+2.8%), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (+0.64%) or Santa Cruz de Tenerife (0.94%) had considerably lower population growth during the same period.
Back in Lanzarote, the third municipality on the island that grew the most in proportion to its inhabitants was Tinajo, with a growth of 1.57% and 106 more inhabitants.
Next, San Bartolomé, whose population increased by 1.27%, which is equivalent to 243 more residents.
In Haría, the growth was 1.06%, which meant the incorporation of 60 new residents.
Meanwhile, in Tías, the population barely increased, it did so by 0.14%, adding 29 residents. The same percentage was recorded in Teguise, but in this case in a negative sense and equivalent to 33 fewer residents.
