Only 89 accommodation establishments on the island were open in April and their occupancy was only 19.33%, according to figures from the Tourist Accommodation Survey of the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac), published in the Cabildo Data Center.

However, the occupancy rate is the highest recorded so far this year. In March, the occupancy of rooms and apartments was 16.86%, while in February it was 13.28% and in January it was 12.20%. However, in the first month of the year there were 111 tourist accommodations in operation, a figure that was reduced to 87 in the following two months and that, in April, only increased by two.

In number of travelers, 22,821 stayed in tourist establishments on the island in April, compared to 14,763 in March, 9,022 in February and 21,091 in January.

Regarding billing, Lanzarote's hotels and non-hotel establishments improved their income in April, increasing by almost one million euros compared to the previous month, although they billed just over 3.3 million, compared to the more than 50 million they had been earning in the same month before the pandemic. The figure for the last month is similar to that recorded in January, while in February the billing did not reach 1.8 million euros.

That increase in income compared to March is also due to the fact that the average daily rate increased, from 56.56 euros in the third month of the year (60.49 euros in hotels and 45.95 euros in non-hotel accommodation) to 66.33 euros in April (71.92 euros in hotels and 51.38 euros in non-hotel complexes).  The average stay, however, decreased slightly, from 5.54 to 5.10 nights.

Finally, the data collected by the Cabildo Data Center reflect that employment in tourist establishments on the island increased by 32% in April. Compared to the 1,870 jobs in March, a month later there were 2,470, which is 600 more jobs. In this case, in January the figure was higher, specifically 3,621 jobs.
